Sciatica Pain
Sciatica symptoms develop when the sciatic nerve becomes inflamed. The sciatic nerves connect the foot and leg muscles to the spinal cord. They begin on each side of the lower spine, run deep inside the buttock, and down the legs before ending in the foot. These are the largest single nerves in the body. When the sciatic nerve gets inflamed, one often experiences numbness, tingling, and pain. These symptoms radiate along the sciatic nerve from the lower back into the buttock and hip and down the leg. It’s common for actions like coughing, sneezing, or extended periods of sitting to cause sciatica symptoms to worsen. Without treatment, sciatica can cause irreversible nerve damage.
