Degenerative Disc Disease
Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD) is a term used to describe the normal “wear and tear” in your spine as you age. The spine consists of bony structures, as well as soft compressible discs. These discs act as shock absorbers to the spine. Unfortunately, over time they can become damaged. DDD is more common in people who are overweight, have a long history of hard manual labor, or smoke cigarettes. Pain from DDD varies from person to person and can be adequately assessed and treated by the doctor.
